About DHBW Mosbach

Hello and welcome to the DHBW Mosbach! We love having you here!

The DHBW Mosbach is one of nine locations of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg in southwestern Germany. More than 3.600 students are enrolled in our 33 undergraduate study degrees. In addition to their studies, the students work at one of the more than 1,100 companies, which cooperate with the university as corporate partners. This is the core of the DHBW cooperative study concept.

The DHBW Mosbach offers a wide range of departments in its two schools: the School of Business and the School of Engineering. Many of these departments have subdivisions within their units, such as the department of Business Studies offering spezializations in International Business, Banking, and Health Care Management, amongst others.

The DHBW Mosbach participates in international exchange. If you are an international exchange student, you can find all relevant information on these pages.

If you want to study at DHBW Mosbach full time, you can find more information on the website for international full degree students.

You can find detailed information about the DHBW Mosbach in our Fact Sheet and in our Image Broschure.

Location of the DHBW Mosbach

The DHBW Mosbach has two campuses: one in the town of Mosbach and one in Bad Mergentheim; both campuses are in the Northeast of Baden-Württemberg - roughly between Heidelberg and Würzburg. We are proud to belong to the so-called small town gems in Southwest Germany.

Campus Mosbach

The main campus of the DHBW Mosbach is located in Mosbach. The town can be found in the famous Neckar Valley at the southern foothills of the Odenwald, a wild-romantic mountain range and popular recreational area near Heidelberg and the Castle Road. With its picturesque half-timbered houses, it bears witness to an almost 1,200-year history. Mosbach's cosy atmosphere, its diverse shops, sidewalk cafés and cultural events attract visitors throughout the year.

Campus Bad Mergentheim

Bad Mergentheim is located in the scenic Tauber river valley and famous Romantic Road, which leads from the town of Würzburg through Bad Mergentheim and to the home of the original „Disney castle“ Neuschwanstein. The Teutonic Order of Knights established its headquarters in Mergentheim in 1525 and built the castle, whose mighty walls and domed towers still dominate the town. Today, it accomodates most of the campus of the DHBW Mosbach. When its natural springs were discovered in 1826, Mergentheim grew into one of Germany's most celebrated health resorts and was awarded the title of a spa town, so that its name now was „Bad Mergentheim“. Elegant stores, cafés and restaurants as well as the wide spa gardens and its pools turn Bad Mergentheim into a great place for living, working and studying.

DHBW Dual Study Concept

Duale Hochschule Baden-Wuerttemberg (DHBW) - Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University - offers students an alternative to the traditional university system:

Study programs involve both theory and practice (cooperative higher education). Its main seat being located  in Stuttgart, DHBW is the first university in Germany featuring both integrated academic studies and work experience. Like other universities, DHBW is a legal entity of public law and simultaneously a state institution.

Many aspects about the cooperative higher education system of the DHBW are unique:

Basic requirement for those wishing to study at the DHBW is the German University Entrance Qualification (Abitur) or equivalent school leaving certificates along with a training contract. This means that students do not apply to DHBW directly. Instead, they first have to gain a position at one of our cooperating companies. When they are accepted, they will subsequently receive their admission for the corresponding DHBW bachelor degree program. The company provides the location for practical training, while DHBW is responsible for the students' academic education.

The bachelor degree comprises six semesters. During each of these semesters, students spend three months studying at the DHBW and three months doing on-the-job training at their corporate partner.

It takes three years to complete a bachelor’s degree from the DHBW. This three-year term of study can not be lengthened, i.e. students must complete all their requirements within the three-year period.

Students at the DHBW are also considered employees at their training firms and receive a salary during their term of study. Thus, students are financially independent, but they are also accountable for their attendance, even during the theoretical half of the semester: If students are ill or are otherwise unable to attend class, they must inform their training firm of their absences.

Advantages of the Cooperative Higher Education System

  • Interlocking of Theory and Practice
Bachelor Degree Programs involve about three-monthly study study terms that take place on campus and which alternate with internship terms of about the same length. A course of study at the DHBW lasts three years (six semesters). The theoretical content is composed on the basis of the requirements in practice and the entire training program and is fine-tuned after consultation with Dual Partners. This communication ensures that the students will receive a well rounded education. Students obtain academic degrees and, in addition, the theoretical material covered is further supplemented and consolidated via practical experience.

  • Condensed Learning
DHBW Bachelor Degree Programs have been awarded the maximum of 210 ECTS Credits due to condensed learning plus synergy effects through dovetailing of theory and practice. Moreover, small classes of about 30 students guarantee close supervision. The period of study is highly concentrated and effective, providing graduates with a very broad experience of professional practice that will enable them to find a footing in working life quickly and easily.  Besides attaining specialist knowledge required for their future professions, students have the chance to acquire a high degree of social competence.

  • Experienced Teaching Staff
In addition to the permanent faculty of the DHBW, teaching is in the hands of highly qualified lecturers from renowned technical colleges and universities of international standing as well as expert professionals in particular fields in Economy and Engineering. This well-balanced combination of teaching expertise ensures that lectures and seminars are characterized by a high degree of practical relevance and a close focus on the latest academic developments.

  • International Orientation
The international focus of the courses offered by DHBW Mosbach reflects a keen awareness of the increasing pace of the globalization process. In addition to a solid grounding in business management, economics and crucial social skills, students attain a high level of competence in foreign languages and intercultural affairs. To consolidate these aspects, we actively encourage our students to gain experience abroad, either with a theory semester at one of our numerous international partner universities or with a Summer School or International Semester at DHBW.

  • Outstanding Career Prospects
After three years of partaking in this program, the students’ future prospects are excellent. Roughly 90% of the students sign employment contracts with their training companies after graduation. Numerous DHBW graduates are now to be found in the boardrooms of well-known companies. Independent studies have shown that DHBW graduates can expect their subsequent careers to progress more rapidly than the average graduate. According to a study made by the IBM, graduates of the DHBW aged between 30 and 44 years have not only risen higher on the career ladder than former students of the same age with a degree from a university or technical college, but they also have a higher income.

  • Financial Independence
Students possess an employment contract involving monthly salary throughout the entire study period of three years and insurance status of normal employees. Thus, anyone pursuing a course of study at the DHBW is, at the same time, a company trainee. Throughout the duration of his or her studies, the undergraduate will be receiving a monthly income from this company and will therefore be able to concentrate fully on the required course work.
